Visit to Edmonton Eco-Park 10am Wednesday 23rd July [2014]

A group from Ally Pally allotments is visiting London Waste at Edmonton Eco-Park.

It's a fascinating and massive scale operation, from the generation of energy from non-recyclable refuse to the making of compost from food waste from households and green waste from gardens and parks.

While the huge scale of the non-recycling disposal is an eye-opener for anyone, for growers, the composting operation will be of especially fascinating. It operates at huge scale, industrialised, and with forced air. Despite the differences from your compost heap or bin, you can learn a lot from it.

The tour will last about 90 minutes. There will be refreshments and time for questions after the tour.

The eco-park is situated at Advent Way, N18 3AG, just to the north of the North Circular (east from North Middlesex Hospital). Put the postcode into www.google.co.uk/maps for a map. Buses 144 from Muswell Hill, Hornsey and Turnpike Lane, and 444 from Turnpike Lane, go past the site. Allow plenty of time to get there - the site is large, so you need time (10 mins) to walk from the bus stop to the buildings, so, with travel time, you should aim to catch a 144 from Muswell Hill before 9am.
