About the Alexandra Palace Allotments Association
This page was originally part of the Tenants' Handbook. The 2019 AGM agreed a number of additions to the handbook, and to simplify the production of copies of the expanded handbook, this section was removed and placed here. We expect to update it.
In recent years the site association has
1 maintained waiting lists and let plots in accordance with Haringey Council’s equal opportunity policies.
2 installed an evaporating toilet, with funding from the Lottery Fund.
3 improved site security by new plantings around the perimeter fence and improving the gates and fencing at the two entrances.
4 carried out repairs to the water supply, maintained communal pathways and roadways.
5 arranged the delivery of Haringey Eco Park compost and free wood chippings.
6 organised horticultural workshops (‘improving your soil’, ‘growing chrysanths & dahlias’) and apple-pressing sessions.
7 organised the growing and sale of plants to plot-holders and, at an Annual Plant Sale, to plot-holders and the general public.
8 represented members’ interests at regular Allotment Forum meetings with Haringey Council to improve the management of allotments. For example, it took joint action with the Forum to challenge a proposal to double rents in 2013/14.
9 taken joint action to successfully challenge a proposal to remove all hose union taps from Haringey allotment sites under the 1999 Water Regulations.
